Growing Natives

As of Sept 2026, many of our trees are either one-year-old, or two-years-old. Grown either in-ground, or reused pots with native soils, our nursery features Sugar Maples, Swamp White Oaks, Pin Oaks, American Lindens, Tulip Poplars, Sweet-bay Magnolias, Black Cherries, and Elderberries.

Currently our selection of native flowering plants is limited, but the assortment includes: Saw-Tooth Sunflowers, Mountain Mints, Black-Eyed Susans, and Butterfly Milkweed.

Growing in Urban Soils

In dense urban enclaves in Boston, the survival rate after municipal tree plantings for native tree species are very low — either due to incorrect planting, poor soil-conditions, and/or environmental stressors such as: dog-pee, heat stress, or inflections by lawn-care operators.

Unfortunately, theres only two factors we can correct: planting protocols and soil-conditions. We decided to expertiment by growing our trees in our native soils, and using natural amendments to promote soil-health, and nutrients uptake. With hope that these practices can be applied to in-ground plantings in the gritty soils alongside roads and sidewalks in Boston, and ensure the longivity of our native species.
